The way in which Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders (acting on behalf of Importers and Exporters) do business with the Australian Customs Service(ACS) is about to change dramatically with new systems and methods under the Cargo Management Re-Engineering(CMR) Strategy.

Some examples of these CMR changes include introduction of :

a new integrated IT system to replace the current out- dated, independant systems,
more sophisticated tools to facilitate the timely identification of high risk goods for the ACS,
penalties for inaccurate and late reporting of cargo information to the ACS,
new document retention requirements,
streamlining of processes for high- volume, low-risk traders.
